Aah Armageddon, what a wonderful movie. Gorgeous Ben Affleck saving equally gorgeous Liv Tyler (end the rest of humanity) from the end of the world. Although not contributing directly to the rescue of the planet, the most attracting thing about this movie wasn't the view of earth from the threatening meteore, but Liv Tyler's smoldering beauty.
At one point in the movie she is wearing a Chinese dress, black with bamboo, which fits the trade her fictional father was in: oil industry in the pacific ocean. The sobriety of the dress brings out the voluptiousness of her lips and the angelic curves of her eyelids. Her make up is strong yet balanced and natural. She seems to be flushing with love all throughout the movie, the love for her boyfriend who sacrifices himself for billions of strangers.
Because I became so obsessed with this gorgeous look I started rethinking my look. I explained to you how to do the Laetitia Casta signature look, which is quite similar to Liv's but is a bit more neutral. Liv's look is perfect for girls with fair skin and dark hair. Laetitia's look is more for golden brunettes with a natural tan. It's two different worlds. I noticed I had been using a lot of teddy bear browns, plum blushes and lavender eyeshadows. Time for a little change and maybe a small transformation into Liv Tyler!
Here we go:
To start, you need perfect porselain skin. Foundation one shade lighter than your real shade will take years off and will give you that fairy glow. To hide blemishes, moisturise dry spots first and prime spots that are still growing to give them some grip. Apply one layer of foundation with a quality foundation brush all over your face and repeat only on the areas where needed to avoid a cakey look. To finish for a real porcelain look, blot with a puf rubbed on a creamy compact powder in the lightest shade that you can find. Don't use a brush because it will ruin your foundation. For foundation I recommend Gosh in Porcelain, Nivea Ideal Finish in 01 or Bourjois Flower Perfection in 01. These are all caucasian light shades. For creamy powder I recommend Max Factor Cream Puff in 01 or Maybelline Derniere Touche Comfort in 01.
Use any other concealer or highlighter that you desire, shape your eyebrows as desired.
For gorgeous, blushing red lips like Liv, apply a red balm (not a gloss), to create some grip and natural flushing lips. Take an old fashioned red lipstick (preferably L'Oréal) with a matte finish, like velvet. This is very important. Make sure it doesn't contain too much pink, brown or orange. It has to be a true, natural looking, jewel red that makes you glow from within. Rub some on you fingers and dab on the entire lip. If there is anything that can ruin your look it's the wrong shade of base color or blush color, or too much blush. Less is more when it comes to your base, but once you get it right, you can wear almost as much makeup you like as long as there is an idea to it.
Make your lips fuller and correct the lipstick with a deep lip liner that is very pigmented. I love the Max Factor Golden line because it covers the skin around the lips too (I tend to go a tiny tiny bit over my lips). I recommend making the cupid bow looking fuller by drawing it a little higher and bigger.
Liv's eyeshadow plays an important part in this look, it's a gorgeous rusty brown, perfect for blue eyes. The light shimmers make her eyes look sizzling and glaring. The rustiness compliments the blue even better, since champagne shades are types of orange that - in make up language - are the equivalent of light brown (which is normally just beige but you can't see beige on regular skin so you need something slightly different like a rosey champagne). Her eyes are no-fuss, they look naturally shaded. The brown eyeshadow may have been dabbed on her eyelids using fingers. Make sure the shade is dark enough to stand out on it own. It's almost a mono eyeshadow look, although I believe that her inner corners have kept lighter and her outer corners probably have more product. You don't want to have to start creating wings or anything that will ruin the natural strength of this look. The eyeshadow I recommed is Maybelline Studio Line in browns, although I'm afraid they have changed the shades a while ago. The packaging is stronger though. It is crucial that you use a stretchy, creamy, satin eyeshadow and not a matte, powdery eyeshadow from some cheap brand. The quality should be just high enough to get a gorgeous look with just a few dabs from the tips of your fingers.
What will give this eyelook its va va voom is a velvet finish gel eyeliner. I started using this only recently because I was sceptical about the wear. But I was hooked instantly. Essence sells a waterproof gel eyeliner for only 2,99. They also sell a special brush for 1,99. It does last all day because I have squinted my eyes very hard during the day and I didn't have one streak at the end of the day. Start on the inner corner, between the lashes, and turn the brush towards the outer corner of your eye brow to get a perfect light cateye, without using much more new liner. Dab a few times on the outer lashes to emphasise the outer corner. Wash after each use to avoid a stiff brush the next day.
Now you're ready to glow like Liv Tyler :)
