After some digging and discovering that he's sometimes mistaken for Chinese or Korean, I found out that this adorable little boy is actually Japanese, he's five years old, and his name is Makoto Sato.
On his YouTube page (username: uke3453), where his six videos have racked up more than 100 million views, his parent (I presume) wrote:
He and I started playing ukulele only one year ago.
We first learned the uke by watching a TV program (NHK).
The program lasted three months.
Well, guess what? That kid is more than a one-trick pony! Check him out doing an adorable cover of The Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da"...in a tie! Watch:
If that doesn't clobber you over the head with a sock full of cute, then check out this kid jamming hard to "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Watch:
Both songs, of course, are from The Beatles' White Album, which indicates someone in that family has respectable musical tastes.
And if you missed the aforementioned cover of "I'm Yours," you can check it out here.
Quick! Someone get this kid on the Ellen show!
New Update 05.16.17
About a year after those videos were uploaded, Makoto collaborated with German director Achim Lippoth on a high-quality music video. The production design is beautiful, which showcases Achim's background in photography.
And: Oh. My. God. He's now wearing a suit and singing "Hit the Road Jack." I can't stand how effing adorable this is! Watch:
A couple years after that, Makoto and Achim got back together for "La Bamba," and it''s also amazing. Did you expect anything less? Watch:
I can't believe more people don't know about these music videos. Between the two of them, they haven't even cracked 200,000 views yet, at the time of this update.
Someone's got to work on promotion! It might as well be me.
Please share this post on Facebook and Twitter and all over the universe!
New Update 05.22.17
There are rumors on the internet saying that this boy is dead, specifically in the description for this Makoto Sato video playlist. But I can't find any information online to confirm if this is true or not.
I think this rumor is false. I believe whoever started the rumor is mistaking this kid with a director who died and who goes by the same name.
Whew! That was a close one!
Long live Makoto Sato!
